Overview
The Central Library of the RVS College of Engineering Technology was established along with the genesis of the College in the year 2007. The Central Library is functioning in two Floors with the total area of 11000 Sq.ft. (900 Sq.m) with the seating capacity of 300 students at a time. From the Contribution of Management and the keen interest of our beloved Chairman and Managing Trustee, the collection of the library is being increasing steadily.

Remote Access
LIBRARY RULES AND REGULATIONS
The Library Rules and Regulations are introduced to regularize the use of our Central Library resources and are reviewed periodically to meet changing needs.
- Users should possess their ID card while they are inside the library.
- Users must scan their ID card at the e-gate barcode scanner when entering and exiting the library.
- Silence should be strictly maintained in the library.
- Personal belongings such as handbags, umbrellas, parcels, files, and notebooks are not allowed inside. Only loose sheets are permitted.
- Users are expected to maintain decent attire and proper behavior at all times.
- The arrangement of chairs and other furniture in the reading area should not be disturbed.
- Do not leave your valuable things inside the library.
- The management will not hold responsibility for any loss or misplacement of personal belongings.
- Newspapers must be read only at the tables allotted for newspaper reading and should not be taken to any other reading areas.
- After reading, books should not be re-shelved by users. Place them on the designated tables to avoid misplacement.
- Library books and journals must be handled with care. Marking, underlining, writing on, tearing, or damaging them in any way is strictly prohibited.
- No library material can be taken out of the library without proper entry and permission.
BOOK ISSUES AND RETURNS POLICY
- The books taken from the library are to be returned within 15 days for students and 30 days for staff on or before the due date specified on the due date slip pasted in the front page of the books.
- While borrowing the book, the member must ensure that the book is in good condition and the page numbers are intact.
- Staff/students are entitled to return the books whenever they are called by the Chief Librarian or Library professionals.
- Books cannot be issued to a user if he/she has any overdue book.
- Reference books will be issued only on an overnight issue.
- Non-book materials like CD and DVD are also issued only on overnight issue.
- The borrower shall be responsible for any loss caused to the library documents borrowed.
- If a book is lost by the borrower, the Chief Librarian should be immediately informed in writing, and the same should be traced or replaced within 15 days from the due date.
- If the borrower is not able to replace the lost book within two weeks, they have to pay the cost of the book in three times. If a book is replaced, the current edition of the book with a bill will only be accepted.
- If the book/resource forms a part of a series/volume, the borrower will be charged for the replacement of the entire set.
- Library resources are the nation's assets and belong to all. All users have the responsibility to protect the library resources against damage, mutilation, theft, and other malpractices.
- Current journals, back volumes, and locker books are not issued for home reading. They are to be referred to inside the library only.
- Users are allowed to take photocopies of the required articles.
- While accessing the e-resources of the library, proper entries must be made in the records of the library. Downloading of information is also permitted.
- Photocopying of a full book is not permitted.
Dr.N.Tamilselvan M.A., M.L.I.S., M.Phil., PGDCA., Ph.D.
Chief Librarian and Head
Dr. N. Tamilselvan received his Ph.D. degree in Library and Information Science from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore in 2012. He received his M.Phil. degree in Library and Information Science from Alagappa University, Karaikudi in 2003 and Master Degree (M.L.I.S.) in Library and Information Science from Annamalai University, Chidambaram in 2000.
He also holds a Master Degree in Social Work from PSG College of Arts and Science. He has 26 years of experience as a Librarian in various institutions. He has published 25 research papers in International Journals, 5 research papers in National Journals, and has presented 25 research papers in National and International Conferences.
Under his guidance, two scholars have been awarded Ph.D. from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. He has received the Best Librarian Award in 2012 and 2015 from reputed institutions. He is a member of the editorial board and Chief Editor of 3 international journals.
He is also a member of the Doctoral Committee for Part-Time Category B Research Scholars of Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. His areas of interest include ICT, Digital Library, Scientometrics, and User Studies.

The RVS College of Engineering and Technology library provides students, staff, and faculty members with opportunities to update their knowledge and supports research and teaching-learning activities. The library is truly the intellectual hub of the campus.
Our services, resources, and physical spaces provide a strong foundation to support the college in achieving high standards in teaching, learning, and research. The Central Library aims to offer effective services to fulfill users’ learning needs in Engineering, Science, and Humanities through user-friendly facilities.
Keeping in view the needs of current and future users, we maintain an International Standard Documentation (ISD) system along with the Dewey Decimal Classification and AACR II cataloguing system. The main objective of the Central Library is to help RVS College of Engineering and Technology emerge as a leading Engineering College under Anna University by maintaining strong learning resources and high-quality services.

MEMBERSHIP
The staff and students of RVS College of Engineering and Technology can get Central Library membership. Membership offers a wide range of lending, reference, information, current awareness, and other services offered by the Central Library. Membership of the Central Library or use of its facilities implies an undertaking to observe the rules and regulations.
Teaching Staff and Non-Teaching staff can get library membership by showing official identity card issued to them by the administration of RVS CET. Students on the roll of the College can get library membership by showing student identity card, issued by the college.
The identity card issued by the college is used for using Central Library services and resources. It is mandatory for all library users to show valid identification cards to staff on request, and entry in the library can be refused in the absence of valid ID card.

Purpose of Committee
The College Library Committee serves in a guiding capacity to the Chief Librarian on matters of policy, planning, programs, goals, and objectives. Each department nominates one representative to serve on the committee. Appointments last for one year and may be renewed. Meetings are held twice per academic year.
Objectives
- To facilitate the efficient functioning of the library as a central resource hub for academic and research activities.
- To promote the use of library resources among faculty, staff, and students.
- To align library infrastructure and services with curriculum and research needs.
- To guide the selection and acquisition of books, journals, and digital resources.
- To implement user-friendly systems for library management and access.
- To ensure modernization of library facilities to keep pace with technological advancements.
Meetings
The Library Committee meets once every semester. Special meetings may be called by the Chief Librarian when necessary. The Chief Librarian prepares the meeting agenda with the approval of the Principal. Half the members constitute a quorum. Minutes and action lists are shared with all members after each meeting.
Functions of the Library Committee
- Formulate and review library policies including borrowing rules and resource access.
- Approve annual budgets for library acquisitions and subscriptions.
- Evaluate and recommend books, journals, and e-resources based on feedback.
- Monitor and improve library operations for efficiency and quality.
- Collect user feedback and address concerns related to resources and services.
- Oversee digitization and automation systems for library management.
- Ensure compliance with Anna University, NBA, and NAAC standards.
- Discuss budget proposals for library development.
