The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AI & DS), established in 2022, focuses on emerging technologies and industry-driven innovations. It provides a robust academic and research environment supported by well-equipped laboratories and advanced learning resources to facilitate effective teaching, learning, and research.
Founded in 2022, the department integrates theoretical knowledge, hands-on training, and industry collaboration to produce competent, employable, and research-oriented professionals. Since its inception, it has aimed to advance AI and Data Science education in alignment with societal and industry needs.

Mission
- To promote excellence in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science research across theoretical, applied and locally relevant domains through strengthened facilities and faculty- and student-driven initiatives addressing societal needs.
- To ensure transparent, unbiased and ethical Artificial Intelligence and Data Science solutions by nurturing professionally competent faculty and embedding ethical practices in teaching, research and innovation.

After 3 years of graduation, our graduates are able to :
PEO1 – Utilize their proficiencies in the fundamental knowledge of basic sciences, mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, data science and statistics to build systems that require management and analysis of large volumes of data.
PEO2 – Advance their technical skills to pursue pioneering research in the field of AI and Data Science and create disruptive and sustainable solutions for the welfare of ecosystems.
PEO3 – Solve real-world problems by designing ethical AI solutions through logical collaboration and lifelong learning to drive innovative economic growth.
Engineering Knowledge – Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
Problem analysis – Identify, formulate, research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.
Design/ Development of solutions – Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal and environmental considerations.
Conduct Investigations of complex problems – Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
Modern tool usage – Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitation.
The Engineer and Society – Apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice.
Environment and sustainability – Understand the impact of professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
Ethics – Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics, responsibilities and norms of engineering practice
Individual and teamwork – Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multi-disciplinary settings.
Communication – Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports, design documentations, make effective presentations and give and receive clear instructions.
Project Management and Finance – Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects in multidisciplinary environments.
Life-long learning – Recognize the need for and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and lifelong learning in the broadest context of technological change.
On successful completion of the Artificial Intelligence And Data Science Degree programme, the Graduates shall exhibit the following:

Dr. A. Kumar M.TECH., Ph.D
DEAN, PROFESSOR & HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT
Dr.A. Kumar is a renowned academician with more than 37 years of Teaching and Administrative experience in the field of Computer Science and Engineering. He served in various capacities from HOD to Principal. He was retired in April 2024 from a Government engineering college as Principal. He has joined in RVS College of Engineering College and Technology in August 2024. Presently he is the Dean (Projects and Student Affairs) and also Heading the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.
He has published more than 15 Papers in referred Journals and he was a recognized research supervisor in Pondicherry University. He has authored a book. He was the External examiner in various universities for the Ph.D. Students. He has guided more than 500 PG and 1000 UG projects.
He has involved in ISO, NAAC, Autonomous, NBA process in the served colleges. He was the Board of Studies Chairman of Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. He was the coordinator of the Distance Education programme of Bharathidasan and Manonmaniam Sudaranar Universities. He has organized many FDP, Seminars and workshops. He has successfully conducted many inter collegiate symposiums. He has also attended Various workshops and Seminars organized by AICTE, Anna University and Leading corporate like TCS.
He has proved his excellence in Academics, leadership, research and curriculum development. His area of expertise is in Database systems and Information Security.
He is the Life member of Computer Society of India and served as office bearer.

Programming Lab IV
Programming Lab IV - This lab is equipped with high-performance systems to support advanced programming and software development activities. Each workstation features an Intel i7 processor, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD storage, and 4 GB graphics, providing an ideal environment for coding, application building, and project execution.
Programming Lab V
Programming Lab V - This lab provides a dedicated space for foundational programming and practical computing exercises. Each system is configured with a Dual Core processor, 4 GB RAM, and 128 GB SSD storage, supporting coursework in basic coding, algorithm development, and software practice.

Achievements
Academic Year 2025–26 (Even Semester)
Students from the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, RVS College of Engineering and Technology, demonstrated outstanding performance in various national-level and intercollegiate events.
Ajithkumar R achieved remarkable success by securing first place in multiple events. He won the Design Craft event and AI Product Sprint at Dhruva 2026 organized by Karpagam College of Engineering, Coimbatore, earning cash prizes of ₹1000 and ₹3000 per team respectively. He also secured first place in the Code Clash event at AIVORA 2K26 conducted by P.A. College of Engineering and Technology, Pollachi. Additionally, he won first place in the Hackathon event at Rathinam Grand Fest (RGF) 2026, held from March 3rd to 7th, receiving a cash prize of ₹7500 per team. He further secured first place in the Galactic Intel Hunt event at OMNI-TECH organized by Suguna College of Engineering, Coimbatore.
Rohith Raj I secured first place in the Mind 2 Code competition, and Surjith B.S secured first place in the Debugging competition during Innofest ’26 organized by RVS Technical Campus, Coimbatore. R. Saran secured second place in the Tech Charades competition, while Surendhar V and Siva Vishnu Kumaran J achieved third place in the Tech Debugging competition at the same event.
Kumar V secured first place in Reverse Coding at the AURA ’26 National Level Technical Symposium organized by Adithya Institute of Technology. Similarly, Abiridharsan, Ilayabharathi S, and Jawahar R also secured first place in Reverse Coding at the same symposium. Gokul Nath D secured second place in the Prompt Battle event at Celesta organized by the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, RVS College of Engineering and Technology.
Bharani A secured second prize in the Code Debugging event at SRISTI 2K26, conducted by SRIET, Coimbatore. Samyuktha M S, Nafiza M, and Saranya S secured third prize in the Paper Presentation event at UTHRA 2K26 organized by United Institute of Technology, Coimbatore, receiving a cash prize of ₹1000 per team.
Jothishwar S secured second place in the Technical Mind to Code competition held at RVS Tech. Kavya S and Lathika Sri J secured first place in the Non-Technical Treasure Hunt competition conducted at RVS College of Engineering and Technology. Abidhasan V secured second prize in the Technical Quiz competition at KIT Engineering College. Additionally, a team consisting of Abidhasan V, Jawahar R, Kumar V, Laraprince I, and Ilayabharathi S secured first prize in Reverse Coding at AURA ’26 held at Adithya Institute of Technology, Coimbatore.
Academic Year 2024–25 (Odd Semester)
Students continued their excellence during the odd semester of the academic year 2024–25 through various academic and extracurricular achievements.
Mirudhula J and Hemavarshini S secured first prize in Paper Presentation at Christian College of Engineering and Technology. Mirudhula J also independently secured first prize in Paper Presentation at the same institution and further achieved first place at the Petromind’25 Paper Presentation competition hosted by RVS College of Engineering and Technology, focusing on AI-driven predictive maintenance in petrochemical plants.
Vishnu Priya M secured second prize in the 7th District Level Women’s Chess Tournament held in Ooty. She, along with Vishweswarn M, also secured second prize in Connect-Tech at the TecKtrix’25 National Level Technical Symposium organized by Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore.
Sowmiya Narayanan S secured second prize in the Speed Pictionary event at NGP Institute of Technology, winning a cash prize of ₹800. Poojasree S secured first place at the Petromind’25 Paper Presentation competition with research focused on AI-driven predictive maintenance.
V. Munishwaran and J. Sanjay presented a paper titled “AI-Powered Imaging Diagnostic Tool,” contributing valuable insights in the Petrochemical Technology domain at RVS College of Engineering and Technology.
Santhiya S, Krupa Sweety A, and Vishalini J secured first prize in the Start Music event at Viyugam 2K25 organized by PPG Institute of Technology. Gokulnath D, Anuradha M, and Bavana N secured second place in the Technical Brain Bots competition held at PPG Engineering College.
Academic Year 2024–25 (Even Semester)
During this semester, students showcased their talents in both technical and non-technical events.
Vishweshwaran M, Vishnu Priya M, and Sneha M secured first prize in the Memory Maze competition at Dr. NGP Institute of Technology, earning a cash prize of ₹1000. Vishnu Priya M also secured first prize in a chess competition conducted at RVS College of Engineering and Technology.
Najih R, Rakesh M, and Swetha G secured second prize in the Memory Maze competition at Sri Eshwar College of Engineering, winning ₹750. Pradeesha S secured first place in the Chess competition at the Annual Sports Day 2K25 held at RVS College.
Vigneshwaran K A secured second prize in the Webathon technical event and also second prize in the Start Music event at Viyugam 2K25 organized by PPG Institute of Technology. Viji V and Pradheesha S secured first prize in the Start Music event at the same fest.
Danlin Lijona L secured second place in the Mime competition, while Anusri K secured first place in the Photography competition conducted at RVS CET. Lathika Sri J secured first place in the Essay Writing competition held at RVS CET.
Academic Year 2023–24 (Even Semester)
Students continued to achieve excellence in academics, sports, and technical competitions.
Students of AI & DS secured second prize in the Overall Women’s Sports Championship conducted by RVS College of Engineering and Technology. Vishnu Priya M secured second prize in the State-Level Women’s Chess Tournament (Under-25) and also secured first prize in the Ooty District-Level Chess Tournament held at C.F.W.R.C Club, Aruvankadu.
Bavana N and Elaiyaraja K secured second prize in the Technical Quiz at PPG Institute of Technology, winning ₹800. Najih R and Swetha G secured first prize in the Treasure Hunt at KIT Institute of Technology, winning ₹2400.
Krupa Sweety A secured first prize in a chess tournament conducted at RVS College. Giflin Carter B secured first prize in the Paper Presentation event at INNOVISION 2K24 and third prize at NEXUS 2024 conducted by Adithya Institute of Technology.
Rakesh M secured first prize in the “Quest for the Unknown” event at Accento 2025 organized by Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science
