The Department of Petrochemical Technology, established in 2013, has emerged as a leader in delivering high-quality education and research in the fields of chemical and petrochemical engineering. The department offers programs including a B.Tech in Petrochemical Technology, an M.Tech in Chemical Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Petrochemical Technology, providing students with a solid academic foundation and cutting-edge technical skills. Recognized by Anna University for its research excellence, the department fosters strong industry collaboration through activities such as industry visits, skill workshops on modern tools like AspenPlus and MATLAB, and personality development training. The department encourages research in innovative areas such as nanomaterials, biofuels, and wastewater treatment. With a focus on holistic development, the department ensures that students are
well-equipped to succeed in both industry and research domains.

Lt. Dr. B. Vijaya Kumar is an accomplished academician and researcher with over 15 years of teaching and administrative experience in India and abroad. Currently serves as the Head of the Department of Petrochemical Technology at RVS College of
Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore. Holds a Ph.D. in Petroleum Refining and Petrochemicals from Anna University, with research focused on nano-catalysts and biofuel production, M.Tech in Petroleum Refining and Petrochemicals and B.Tech in Chemical Engineering.
A recognized research supervisor ( Ref no:4150009) under Anna University and has guided multiple student projects and published over 18 research papers in reputed journals like Scopus,& Web of science, and presented 16 research articles in various National and International conference organized by reputed institution like UPES, PDEU, NIT etc. Published a patent and had received funding state government.
Served in various portfolios: IQAC Coordinator, NBA Coordinator, NAAC Coordinator Beyond academics, I am a Lieutenant-ranked NCC Officer and actively involved in student development and social service.
Areas of interest include nano-catalysts, renewable energy, and process optimization.

Awards and Achievements by Students
Academic Year 2024-25
Final-year students participated in the "Popularization of Science" organized by RVSCET on 29-30 ovember 2024, developing a petroleum refinery model. Mr. M. Marikani (Batch 2020-24) received the Anna University First Rank (Gold
Medal) in April-May 2024.
Academic Year 2023-24
Third-year students carried out a project on waste-to-wealth, producing paper from sugarcane leaf pulp. The project won 2nd Prize (Rs. 15,000) in Hackathon’24 at RVSCET.
One batch of students received a TNSCST Fund (Student Project Scheme) of Rs.7,500.
Academic Year 2022-23
Mr. Smith, II Year PCE, won a cash prize in an essay competition organized by RVS Group of Institutions.
Mr. S. Saravana Kishore, III Year PCE, secured First Place in a photography competition at KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology.
Mr. V. Sriram and Mr. V. Sitharthan, III Year PCE, secured Second Place in a connection competition at KPR Institute.
Mr. B. Arasu and Mr. Nirmaleswaran, II Year PCE, presented a paper at NIT Rourkela.
Mr. R. Senthil Rajan and Mr. T. Thiruyogeshwaran, II Year PCE, presented a paper at a national symposium at Hindustan College of Engineering and Technology.

14 students were placed in companies like Manali Petrochemicals Ltd., JSE Engineering Pvt. Ltd., and Sakthi Auto Component Ltd.

Mr. K. Surya, Mr. S. S. Harish Kumar, and Mr. Ashin Sunny secured 9th, 11th, and 13th ranks, respectively, in Anna University exams.
Academic Year 2019-20
Mr. Sreejith P. R. secured 4th rank in Anna University exams.
15 students were placed in Tagros Chemicals India Ltd., Cuddalore.
The book "NEER KORTHA MEGANGAL & by Mr. G. Sakrateesh, II Year PCE, was launched during Agnitaila 2K20.
Mr. Abhiram Krishna, Mr. Sreevind K., and Mr. Shanmughapriyan M. represented the college in QUEST 2019 at IIT Chennai.
Mr. Sreejith P. R. was awarded Best Outgoing Student (Batch 2014-2018). Final-year students won First Prize in QUEST 2019 (Quiz Competition) at IIT Chennai.
Mr. Ajith Kumar R. and Mr. Nived Menon P. completed the THINK CREATE ENGINEER program at IIT Madras.

Mr. R. Gangatharan, Mr. S. Gokulnath, and Mr. V. Sanjay secured 2nd, 3rd, and 7th ranks in Anna University Exams.

Mr. Kiran Shaj, Muhammed Anas V. M., and Samanth K. M. presented research at & SPICE’18 & at Adhiyamaan College of Engineering.
Mr. Mohammed Shahensha was awarded Best Outgoing Student (Batch 2014-2018).
Mr. Rahul won 3rd Prize in IIT-PALS INNOWAH at IIT Chennai.
One student batch received TNSCST Fund of Rs. 10,000.
Academic Year 2016-17
Ms. Silvya Anumegalai and Mr. K. Abijith received Silver and Bronze Medals from Anna University.
Ms. Silvya Anumegalai was awarded Best Outgoing Student (Batch 2013-2017).
Students presented papers in 20 international and 160 national conferences.
Students attended 60 seminars/workshops and completed 80 in-plant training programs.
Three student batches went to Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gujarat, for undergraduate projects.
Two final-year projects were selected for TNSTC funding.

Dr. A. S. Arun Prasad, Associate Professor, Department of Petrochemical Engineering, completed his Ph.D. in March 2022.
Dr. B. Vijaya Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Petrochemical Engineering, completed his Ph.D. in May 2022.
Faculty members applied for project proposals from various government and non-government agencies like AICTE, MHRD, CSIR, DST, TNSCST.
Received a grant of Rs. 20,000 from Tamil Nadu State Council for Science & Technology (TNSCST) for a student project.
Ms. E. Vetreselvi, AP/PCE, successfully completed an NPTEL course in Unit Operations of Particulate Matter and received an Elite certificate.
Mr. A. S. Arun Prasad, AP/PCE, successfully completed an NPTEL course in Unit Operations of Particulate Matter.
Academic Year 2021-22
Dr. R. Kannan, HoD/PCE, was the faculty mentor of the project team in IIT-PALS INNOWAH and bagged 3rd Prize at IIT Chennai.
Department faculty members published 35 research articles and 4 book chapters in peer-reviewed journals (listed in Annexures I and II, CFR, Anna University).
Faculty members attended and presented research papers in 6 international conferences and 8 national conferences.
Faculty members attended 8 faculty development programs and 10 seminars/workshops.
